If the opening figures of Rs 7.25 crore across India were any consolation, the following days didn’t do much to boost the morale of Sanjay Dutt who ventured into production with Rascals. The comedy, also featuring Ajay Devgn, under the aegis of David Dhawan failed to retain audience interest.
According to trade analysts, the movie, which cost R 50 crore (including prints and advertising), is not likely to break even, forget making money for the actor-producer and his investors.Considering numbers like R 5.75 crore (Friday), R 5 crore (Saturday) and R 5.5 crore (Sunday), trade analyst Amod Mehra says, “The writing on the wall was there to be seen on Friday itself. And it was reiterated on Saturday, which registered numbers over 30 per cent less (more…)

Kangna would be glad to break free post Rascals

Kangna may well be including days till the release of Rascals position which she would be glad to break free. The Sanjay Dutt-Ajay Devgn starrer hasn’t really left a good flavor in her mouth and with the makers clearly putting the film’s (distant) next lead Lisa Haydon a lot to the front of her; picture is quite plain on the wall. yet, the finish is not as close to as it seems. basis being that Kangna still has one new film with Ajay Devgn – Tezz – up for release and there is still a sword hanging on her neck, what with Sameera Reddy as another most important lady in the film, ready to control all the attention.

“Kangna has been quiet through all this mayhem and that has been with a reason. However, she would be on her toes when it comes to Tezz. No one can be sure of how this Priyadarshan (more…)

80th anniversary of the martyrdom of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh

“If the deaf are to hear, the sound has to be very loud,” when Bhagat Singh threw a bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly to protest the Defence of India Act, he probably didn’t know how loud his voice would be: that it would still echo in the ears of the youth decades after his death.

On the 80th anniversary of the martyrdom of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, we bring you some of the memorable on-screen depictions of this young revolutionary:

Shaheed Bhagat Singh (1963)
The handsome Shammi Kapoor is one of our earliest memories of this fabled freedom fighter. And though Shammi wasn’t the first actor to play Bhagat Singh on screen, he is one of the most memorable ones to do so.

Shaheed (1965)
It wasn’t long before ‘Mr. Bharat’ Manoj Kumar took up the mantle of Bhagat Singh on screen. No points for guessing that there’s no competition to Manjo Kumar’s flair as a patriot.

The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (2002)
It was after a gap of more than 30 years that Bhagat Singh was revisited on screen, and this time with Ajay Devgan donning the tilted hat. Even with the unnecessary romance and mush, this movie scored above 23rd March 1931: Shaheed which released on the exact same day!

Rang De Basanti (2006)
Probably one of the best metaphors for Bhagat Singh, Rang De Basanti drew parallels between the present day struggle against corruption and the fight for independence. The fresh faced Siddharth was Bhagat Singh while Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni played Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru, Ashfaqullah Khan and Ramprasad Bismil respectively.
