Some days back, we experienced the shooting of Mission Impossible in Mumbai, now James Bond is all set to follow Tom Cruise in the city of Bollywood.
According to the reports, James Bond’s next coming flick ‘Bond 23’ is all set to be shot in Mumbai. Not only this, the company, which did production work for the movie Slumdog Millionaire, has been hired for this movie as well.
According to a source, who is engaged with the movie, Sam Mendes, director of the next coming flick recently made a hush-hush visit to the city along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April for the film’s recce.
The source said further that the movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season on a month-long schedule.
Another source said that the crew of the film is an excited but nervous. They expect the shoot to be a maddening one, given Bond’s fan following here.
Now, it’s time to cheer up for the fans of James Bond as the high profile detective might well be coming to town sometime soon.

Suniel Shetty’s company that’s hosting Akon’s 3-day trip to India has been thrown into a tizzy. Disregarding the tight minute-by-minute schedule Akon wants to meet his pal Shah Rukh Khan.
Not only that. On the rapper’s insistence, the venue for Akon’s birthday party on the night of 15th April has been shifted from Mumbai to Pune to avoid a bottleneck of guests from Mumbai and Bollywood who would insist on being at the most happening bash this weekend.
On his first, concert tour in India Akon has made a very special request to his organizers. He wants to taste the special cuisine in every city that he visits, namely Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. The request that has been conveyed belatedly to the organizers has sent them scurrying into every city’s menu-card looking for the food that Akon and his entourage can have without getting a spice-attack.
Also, at the last minute, Akon has requested the organizers to give him time to visit Shah Rukh Khan. That one, say Akon’s harried hosts, is tougher than arranging the precise city-to-city cuisine, since Akon’s schedules from the time he lands at the Mumbai airport on Thursday-Friday 1 am to the time he leaves on Monday, had been worked out into water-tight compartments.
Sujit Jain, MD, Netsurf Entertainment who are hosting Akon, admits Akon has asked for time to meet Shah Rukh Khan. “Of course, Akon will meet Shah Rukh. We’ve worked the meeting into Akon’s schedule after he hands over a cheque on Thursday morning to needy children in Mumbai.”
After his meeting with Shah Rukh, Akon will head for Pune for his very private birthday bash and an intimate 45-minute concert attended by no more than 1200 people.
Says Jain, “That again is a massive problem. As soon as it became known in Pune that Akon would be performing we had requests for tickets that ran into unbelievable numbers. But we can only accommodate 1000-1200 people at the Pune concert.”
No concert by an international artiste of Akon’s stature has ever been held in Pune.
In fact, Akon who has come to India earlier has never done public concerts. At the Gurgaon concert on Saturday, two amateur musicians chosen through a contest on Akon’s website Hit Lab will open Akon’s concert.
After the small performance in Pune on Friday night followed by his birthday bash which he has asked to be very small and private, Akon goes for the Gurgaon concert where the organizers want to celebrate his birthday on stage during the performance.
There is only one problem. No changes or additions in the Akon’s schedule are allowed.
Laughs Jain, “No birthday surprises. Otherwise they’ll backfire in our faces. We have planned a birthday celebration on stage in Gurgaon. But we’ve to run it through his people. Every step in his itinerary is inked and monitored. And the slightest change or addition has to be notified.”
On Sunday May 17, Akon performs in Bangalore and then returns to the US on Monday morning. But not before watching his co-host Suniel Shetty’s latest release Thank You.
Says a source, “Akon wants to watch at least one film of Suniel. He has heard good things about Suniel in Thank You. Akon’s hosts will show him at least portions of the film.”
But it’s the food that’s causing the organizers major heartburn. Since Akon and his wife are major foodies, his request to arrange the special food in each town has Suniel Shetty and his partner Sujit Jain running from pillar to post getting the right items from the menu in place.

I was lucky enough to speak to Dave Wickenden as he and the boys were together rehearsing their show for the Edinburgh Fringe later this year.  Dave describes “Smoke and Mirrorballs” as a “riotous show”, which contains a lot of original material – look out for the Bollywood sketch otherwise described as Bollywooden!!  - and is made up of observational and physical comedy, dancing, audience participation and a couple of well known covers to get everyone enjoying themselves. In this brilliant new show, Stephen, Dave, David and Ian tear it up with double helpings of frisky footwork and musical madness.

Since bursting onto our screens in 2001, the boys have provided musical introductions for many of the world’s biggest stars and have sung with Jimmy Osmond,  Mark Ronson, Neil Diamondand Abba’s Benny Andersson. I asked Dave about the time they met Benny Andersson (I am a fan!) and he said that is was one of those magical moments and Stephen could barely contain himself! Jonathan Ross said that for 10 minutes they were all members of Abba as they joined Benny Andersson in singing “Dancing Queen”.  Among David’s highlights from the Jonathan Ross years were working with David Bowie, Barbra Streisand and Smokey Robinson.
As well as “Smoke and Mirrorballs” they are currently rehearsing a potted Swan Lake for the Edinburgh fringe.  It will be their fourth time at Edinburgh and this time they will be spoof ing Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake  - it will be called “Bourne Free” – and are looking forward to the amazing buzz that Edinburgh is all about.
In the meantime, after three sell out shows at the Edinburgh Festival, a successful 60 date UK tour and 9 glorious years as Jonathan Ross’ House Band, the fabulous foursome are raring to go once more, and are delighted to present their Edinburgh smash “Smoke and Mirrorballs” to their Camberley audience, because in Dave’s words “the response from the audience to a live performance just can’t be beaten!”

Australian actor Hugh Jackman is India bound for a film and media conference where he will be sharing the stage with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan.

The ‘X Men’ franchise star will reportedly fly to Mumbai on Thursday night and will be the star attraction on the closing day of the conference on Friday.

At the conference, Hugh Jackman and Shahrukh will talk about cinema and the fast bridging gap between the two biggest film producing industries in the world, Bollywood and Hollywood.

Karan Johar will preside over the conference. In fact, none other than Aishwarya Rai will introduce Jackman on the stage.

Jackman’s India visit has been planned and successfully executed by Fox Star India. We hear Karan Johar also played an important role in making Jackman come to India.

For the uninitiated, Jackman is best known for his roles in the films of ‘X Men’ series, ‘Wolverine’ being the latest. He is also a singer and a dancer and has done a good number of stage musicals. You might also remember him as the entertaining host of the Oscar awards night in 2009 when Slumdog Millionaire won multiple awards.

WASHINGTON — Warner Bros. is bringing movie rentals to Facebook, the first Hollywood studio to turn to the gigantic social network as a platform for its films.
“The Dark Knight,” the 2008 Batman thriller directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, will be the first movie offered for rental on Facebook, the studio said, and can be watched at facebook
The rental fee is 30 Facebook Credits, or $3, and the movie can be watched unlimited times during a 48-hour period, the Time Warner-owned studio said in a statement.
For the moment, only Facebook members in the United States can rent the movie.
Warner Bros. described the move as an experiment but said additional titles will be available for rental and purchase on a regular basis “over the coming months.”
“Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people,” said Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
“Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts,” Gewecke said.
“It gives consumers a simple, convenient way to access and enjoy our films through the world’s largest social network,” he said.
Warner Bros. said Facebook users will be able to comment on the movie, interact with friends and update their status while watching the film.
Hollywood studios have been looking at various services to distribute movies online, including Amazon, Netflix, Apple’s iTunes and others, but Warner Bros. is the first to offer its movies on Facebook, which has over 500 million members.
